Pippa Funnell: Secrets Of The Ranch / Petz Horsez 2

This PC game is available on Old Games Download for free. Or as "Petz Horsez 2" on Steam.

My game time: 11,5 hours, completed the main story.

Info:

You can play the game on easy, normal, or difficult mode. I played the easy mode.

"Secrets Of The Ranch is a game about a girl, Emma who just got hired as an assistant to a veterinarian. Unfortunately, her cab breaks down in the middle of nowhere, so she needs a place to stay. Emma finds a small village where she meets a boy that provides her shelter for the night. In return, he asks her to help his mare give birth. After, she learns that the owner of the ranch has disappeared in strange circumstances." (Old Games Download). The main story is about solving the disappearance and saving the ranch from being expropriated.

It took around 4 hours for me to play till I got to the point where we actually started to solve the mysterious disappearance. And I think it's a little bit too long time to get the game running because before that nothing too interesting happens. Sometimes you have to wait in-game days for the main story to continue. Good time to do chores and train your horses, right? Only if training your horse's skills to the next level wasn't so frustratingly slow. Instead of training horses to the next levels, it's easier to just buy higher-level horses that can compete in higher-level competitions. But it doesn't really matter because you don't actually need to do a lot of horse-related stuff in the main quest (like competing, training, taking care of your horse, these are just side quests).

Also, you can choose the way of your story. It's said that choosing to continue the vet studies, the storyline will be a bit different.

This game includes 20 chapters.
After you complete the last chapter, you can keep on playing the free mode.

Basic controls: arrows, can't be changed.

Notices:

+You can click on an area of the map to "teleport" there.
+Weather (rain, snow).
+You can buy different breeds and colors of horses.
+Breeding.
+A lot to do with your horses.
+The horses have many pretty cute animations in different situations.

-The "teleportation" usually takes a lot of time, for example from city to stud farm it takes 3 hours of your day, and that's only one way.
-Night closes in quickly (in-game hours are real world minutes).
-Competitions are only once a week.
-Market is only on certain day, other days you can't buy equipment or clothes.
-Sometimes you need to wait days between the chapters and thus main story continuing.
-Main story requires a lot of running to different places.

Gameplay screenshots:

Stud farm is the most important place in the game. And yes, when you're not riding, you have this kind of an camera angle which makes the steering a bit hard, because the camera angle isn't moving, only the character is moving.

You need to take care of your horses. Brushing, picking hooves, feeding, and cleaning the stall. And let's not talk about the bridle being part of the coat...

You have three disicplines you can ride: dressage, jumping and cross-country jumping.

You can also go on trail rides to freely explore the map.

Jumping. It's pain at first, but when you understand the timing, it'll be pretty fun in the end. Isn't the failing just beutifully animated..?

You can breed horses. In the beginning, you have very few horses to choose to breed with. But you can buy more horses of different breeds and colors when yo unlock more chapters.

You can actually get an apartment where you go sleeping, and a have a wardrope, collection, an so on.

Horse's stall. Here you do the cleaning and feeding. Also you can take your horse to the pasture for more activities.

Cross-country jumping. And no, you can only see your horse from behing when riding (except dressage). The camera-angle turns and shows the jump slowed only when you get a perfect jump.

Dressage competition.

By succeeding in competitions you can open different tracks.

In pasture, you can lunge, wash and have a "dialogue" with your horse.

Besides riding and competing, you can train your horses by lunging them in the pasture.

Is it worth playing?

So, overall this game was a bit wearisome but still pretty interesting to play. Wouldn't still say it's worth over 10 game hours. I could keep playing a little longer if the activities like training (riding and lunging) wouldn't take so long time.
If you like slow-paced games, I'll say it's worth playing. But if you're hasty like me and want something happening almost all the time, this is not a game for you.
